Most companies start evaluating an RFP as soon as they receive it from the entity making the request. Not everyone that receives the RFP will actually respond to it and this could be for many different reasons. Most of the time though, if a company doesn\’t respond it is simply because they just can\’t handle the specifics of that job do to the scope of the project or because they have other competing projects they are already working on.
Most companies that do respond though are extremely thorough with their response and diligent about completing it. There are usually firm deadlines that come with the RFP. Most deadlines are at least a month out form when the RFP is received. With most RFP\’s, the information that is needed to complete the request is very detailed and it can take a great deal of time to finish the RFP and get it ready to send in, so most companies take right up until the deadline to get it done.
Completing an RFP can be labor intensive and therefore can be expensive to the companies that are responding to it. Knowing that, companies that do respond to RFP\’s want to make sure that they have the best shot they can possibly give themselves in order to try and get the job that the RFP is representing.
