Achieving The Ultimate Patio Design

The way to achieve the ultimate patio design has a lot to do with how much time one will spend outdoors. Designing this outdoor space will take as much, if not more time and effort than decorating an indoor space. The bottom line is, this should not be rushed in any way.

The first thing that has to be determined is the size of the actual patio, if it isn\’t already laid out. To do so properly, it\’s important to consider carefully what the purpose of this outdoor room or rooms will be. Obviously, there are limitations in small spaces. However, if the spaces large, there are many options to choose from.

Considering the blank canvas, the proportions of the patio must be identified. Things can only be put into perspective by laying it out. This is done with stakes and string. Bring a hammer and a measuring tape to ensure that all is perfect. This step is necessary to help the homeowner and whomever is building the deck to see its actual size.

Then, the the rest of the plans can take form. For example, planning a living room dining room combination, one would have to ensure that there is enough space for both the rooms. Again, proper measurements will have to be used for the plans to be realistic. In other words, planning to place two couches in the space would have to be actual size for the whole plan to work.

In all these plans, shelter has to be thought of and implemented to make the outdoor rooms more usable. Comfort is of essence. Otherwise, weather elements of all kinds could force homeowners and guests back indoors. It isn\’t only protection from the sun that counts here.

Obviously, that leads to choosing a form of overhead protection, like a canopy, awning, and such. To really maximize the time that can be spent outdoors, more has to be done. Otherwise, if it\’s windy and rainy, it would force everyone back indoors.

Generally speaking, the overhead protection should be as large as the actual space being designed. Otherwise, only part of the patio would be able to be used in the various weather conditions. Plus, it wouldn\’t look right if only a portion of it was covered. To make the space as livable and as aesthetically pleasing as possible, a good amount of seating should be available. There should be considerations as to how much is required on a daily basis, and on special occasions. This can help to make the space extremely useful, which is of utmost importance.

To do this effectively, regardless of how large or small the patio is, have built in benches installed. Basically, this can be done with basic tools and little skill. What is required is solid wooden slabs. To make the perimeter seating even more useful, make wooden boxes instead. Ensure that they are hollow and the seat is on hinges. These would open like doors or chests would. Then, the boxes would provide for storage space. That can make your backyard neat and tidy and protect various items, like cushions that would make this extra seating more comfortable.
